USA Nordic devising a virtual reality ‘ski jump simulator’ that feels like the real thing
PARK CITY, Utah — USA Nordic announced a unique volunteer opportunity for any mechanical, software, or electrical engineers: they are attempting to build a virtual reality ski jumping simulator. USA Nordic sent out the call for volunteers in their newsletter on October 12.
The ski jumping simulator will “replicate all the feelings and sensations associated with a perfectly executed Ski Jump take of and air flight.” USA Nordic began working on prototypes of the jump simulator in the fall of 2021. The project started with cooperation from the Engineering Department at CU Denver and will eventually incorporate virtual reality goggles and a hydraulic lift to simulate the ski jumping experience.
The project is still far from completion, but USA Nordic is “optimistic that they can ultimately build a simulator that will feel very real and help athletes advance more quickly” through their training in a safe way.
Volunteers will help brainstorm and innovate with USA Nordic to make this exciting project a reality.
