Heber City Council to discuss building height, police vehicles, and more on October 4
HEBER CITY, Utah — Heber City is set to hold its regularly scheduled city council meeting on October 4 at 4 p.m. at 75 North Main Street and online. Here’s a summary of some of the more important items up for discussion this week.
A couple of issues related to Heber City Police Department are on the docket, including a request for the approval of an evidence purge. According to the staff report, evidence purges are a regular part of how Police Departments operate and organize their stored evidence. The report includes an itemized inventory of items proposed to be destroyed.
Heber City Police Department is also seeking approval to purchase new patrol vehicles, which they have had difficulty obtaining in the last two years. The staff report indicates that HCPD will be leasing eleven cars for a total of $132,000, putting them over the $50,000 purchase limit and requiring them to seek approval from the city government.
The City Council meeting will also include a proclamation by Mayor Heidi Franco to recognize National Hispanic Heritage Month parallel to Governor Cox’s proclamation from September. Mayor Franco’s proclamation includes information about the number of Hispanic Americans who have served in the U.S. military since World War I, including 200,000 Hispanic members of the Armed Forces on active duty and approximately 1,200,000 Hispanic veterans. TownLift reported on Gov. Cox’s proclamation and Hispanic Heritage Month in Utah here.
The meeting is set to approve the adoption of Ordinance 2022-26, which includes amendments to the City’s planning and zoning laws. Most notable among these amendments is a proposed change to regulating building height; the council is considering allowing hotels and similar buildings to be constructed up to five stories in most zones in Heber City.
Finally, the City will review current City branding and consider possible rebranding of the City logo and other elements of the City brand.
