Dump Truck accident on I80 spills glycol causes traffic delays

PARK CITY, Utah — At approximately 8:10 a.m. on October 21, Park City Fire District Engine 37, Medic Ambulance 37, Medic Engine 35, Ambulance 35, Hazmat 33, BC3, Summit County Sheriff’s Office, and Utah Highway Patrol responded to an accident off I80 and US 40 in Park City when a dump truck hauling hot asphalt crashed through a cable barrier. A glycol spill resulted requiring a hazmat team to contain.

Glycol, also know as ethylene glycol, which is used on suppression systems, is rated 2, or moderate, for health hazards for air contact.  The hazard rate can increase when in contact with skin and eyes.

Four vehicles and an ATV were involved in the accident and two patients we transported by ambulance with minor injuries. Eastbound of I80 is currently backed up due to the accident.
