Be rescue-ready for next summer with lifeguard license at Basin Rec
PARK CITY, Utah — For the water lovers who want to dive a little deeper in their knowledge, or even plan ahead for next summer’s job, Basin Rec is hosting a hybrid Shallow Water Lifeguard Certification Course this September.
The course topics will include: surveillance and recognition, water rescue skills in depths up to 6 ft., breathing and cardiac emergency response, first aid, CPR, AED, and others.
All lectures will take place online prior to the course start date, and the online portion must be completed by September 17. A mandatory pre-screen to continue, and the practical skills test following will take place in person at The Fieldhouse pool. The mandatory pre-screen requires participants to be able to swim 100-yards without stopping, swim with a 10-pound brick under 1 minute and 45 seconds, and tread water for 2 minutes without the use of their hands.
“The primary purpose of the Shallow Water Lifeguarding Course is to train Lifeguards to act with speed and confidence in emergency situations, both in and out of the water,” said Basin Rec Marketing and outreach Manager Justine Kadziel in a statement.
