Park City Fire District purchases new electric motorcycles

PARK CITY, Utah — Park City Fire District (PCFD) purchased two electric motorcycles to help with backcountry rescue operations. The PCFD is responsible for responding to emergencies from over 400 miles of single track, several hundred miles of unimproved roadways, and thousands of acres of ski resort property and undeveloped areas.

The two new Zero FX 3.6 fully electric motorcycles will join an existing fleet of vehicles. The bikes are designed to be on-road and off-road performance bikes that can handle many different situations.

PCFD’s other vehicles consist of Honda CRF 250L, Can-Am six passenger side by side, Polaris Ranger two seat side by side, and a Polaris Ranger Crew XP 900 side by side. Many vehicles can be outfitted with tracks during the winter months and can even transport mountain bikes via an attached rack should that be necessary.

The new electric motorcycles represent a new era for first responders. Things are changing in the automotive world, and more options will be available that is less maintenance and more cost-effective. Time will tell how the PCFD progresses its fleet of vehicles and what impact these new electric motorcycles will have.
