SUMMIT COUNTY — A mountain biker was airlifted via Life Flight from Trailside Bike Park on Tuesday, July 26, 2022. Summit County Sheriff’s office, Park City Fire District, and the University of Utah AirMed responded to the scene to help the injured rider. At the time of transport, the rider was in stable condition and is presently doing well, according to Michelle Anderson, Park City Fire District Public Information Officer.
The rider was injured near the Tar Pits Jumps when the rider went off a jump wrong and landed on his head. The rider was wearing a helmet at the time and taking the impact, it cracked as a result.
Basin Recreation District Director, Dana Jones, conveyed her concern about the riders’ well-being upon hearing about the incident. Jones said that the ‘safety of the people visiting our parks’ is a top priority. Basin Recreation Staff performs weekly checkups at all facilities, which includes the bike park at Trailside.
Like many transplants to Utah, Kevin started his journey to Park City as a ski instructor in 2014 and fell in love with the mountains enough to stay. A skier since the age of 2 and a half, he still gets excited about carving turns down the slopes and hopping into the powder on snow days.
Kevin's passion for storytelling and photography led him to a second bachelor's degree focused on communications and fine art photography from the University of Utah. Paired with his first undergrad in ecology from Oklahoma State University, Kevin particularly enjoys writing environmental and nature stories. In his spare time, you can usually find him in his jeep looking for wildlife and landscapes to photograph.
