Monster Drawing Rally connects artists and collectors

PARK CITY, Utah. — The sixth annual Monster Drawing Rally hosted by Kimball Art Center (KAC) and Arts Council gathers 30 local artists for three rounds of live drawing, painting, and creating. The interactive live event is a fundraiser for KAC and Arts Council and will be hosted at KAC on Saturday, June 11 from 3 to 6 p.m.

“It’s really just an art party in a parking lot,” said Arts Council Executive Director Jocelyn Scudder.

High West will be slinging signature cocktails, alongside a DJ, and light bites provided by the Boneyard Saloon. Tickets to the event can be found here; pricing is $20 per adult, and $10 per child/student, and kids under 5 enter for free. Day of pricing increases by $5 at the door. There will also be a kids’ drawing and creating station for inspired (or needing distraction) youngsters.

“It’s a creative and energetic event. It’s technically a live art-making event that celebrates the local talent of our artists. Our intent is to build connections between local artists and a collector,” said Scudder.  The name of the event evokes that big energy and liveliness that one may think of when it comes to a monster truck rally, rather than the spooky Halloween-type Monster Rally.

Seasoned art collectors and art fans will find a level playing field at the Monster Drawing Rally. At the end of each 50-minute round the artwork will be auctioned via live card draw, and the highest card holder able to purchase the artwork for $50. However, at the end of the three rounds and drawings will be a silent auction where participating artists can donate additional artwork for auction.

“One of my favorite memories is [from around] 2017/18 a teenager came to the Rally and brought their savings from their allowance, and they bought their first piece of artwork,” she said. “It was a really special moment and exactly lent to our goal of again making this event for anyone.”

Scudder suggests all joining to park at the Homestake parking lot, the main Kimball Art Center lot. Attendees will check in at the KAC entrance and guided to the event. KAC will also be hosting guided tours of its current exhibit, More Than A Thousand Words, highlighting neurodivergent artists.
