Defensible work space near Treasure Hill begins June 20

PARK CITY, Utah. — A defensible space/wildfire mitigation clearing will be occurring near Treasure Hill from June 20 to July 10.

Defensible space is the buffer created between a structure or home and the wildland area that surrounds it in order to slow or stop the spread of wildfire. It is created by thinning grasses, shrubs and trees which may serve as wildfire fuels. Proper defensible space also provides firefighters a safe area to work in, to defend homes that may be at risk.

Park City Municipal will perform the mitigation on city-owned open spaces, where homes are within the 100’ buffer. The city uses qualified arborists and wildfire professionals. The city has contracted Alpine Forestry LLC to perform the associated work. However, private homeowners are responsible for work on their property.

The work will take place in the City owned open space in the areas indicated on map found on reverse. Areas shaded yellow are City owned property; areas shaded in blue represent an approximate 100’ buffer off of structures adjacent to City owned property. The areas where the 100’ buffer (blue) overlap with City owned property (yellow) represent the approximate work area.
