Wildfire mitigation project in Big Cottonwood Canyon will last through the summer

BIG COTTONWOOD CANYON — The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is notifying drivers that crews will be working Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on SR-190 in Big Cottonwood Canyon through August 2022, with minimal night and weekend work.

What to expect:

  • One-way, alternating traffic controlled by flaggers. All traffic, including bicyclists, are required to obey flagging operations.
  • Increase traffic
  • Up to 15-minute delays
  • Potential noise, dust and vibration along the roadway
  • Restricted access to trailheads and picnic areas in construction areas

The purpose of the Rocky Mountain Power project is to replace segments of overhead power lines with underground conduit and upgrade existing overhead systems to withstand weather and environmental conditions to help prevent wildfires and protect power sources.
