RSL seeks much needed victory on the road against New York City

SALT LAKE CITY — Real Salt Lake (RSL) is seeking its first victory in nearly a month after the club has been unable to break stalemates over the past several matches. After a loss to Sporting Kansas City and draws with Colorado and Toronto, RSL will look to defeat NYC F.C. on the road this Sunday.

While boasting a 9-1-1 home record against Toronto F.C., RSL was unable to secure three points last week as the match ended in a 2-2 draw.

Even though RSL led for a majority of the contest, Toronto found a late equalizer in the 82nd minute after VAR confirmed there was no foul against RSL Captain Damir Kreilach and the goal in controversy would count.

“At the end of the day I think that we played a very good game,” Kreilach said post-game. “We just have to close the game down earlier with all of the chances that we had but unfortunately we conceded the second one and we got one point. It feels like we lost two points with the way we played, the way we created the chances, the way we followed the plan but hats up and we are moving forward now.”

RSL will now head back on the road to face a struggling NYC F.C. club who currently finds themselves at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. With only one win in their first five matches, NYC F.C. hasn’t proved to be a formidable opponent. However, RSL learned the hard way against Sporting Kansas City that nobody can be taken lightly, and with the way RSL has been squandering chances, no win is guaranteed.

Sunday’s match will be broadcast locally on KMYU (2.2 over-the-air, 643/22 Comcast, 12 Satellite). The match is also available to stream via the KSL TV & KSL Sports apps, as well as via KSLSports.com. Fans can also follow via ESPN700 AM radio. Spanish-speaking fans can tune in on KBMG Latino 106.3 FM, La Gran D 102.3 FM and KTUB 1600 AM for the local radio broadcast. Kickoff is set for Sunday, April 17 at 11 a.m. MT.
