Dominion Energy Utah Launches Program to Reduce Customers’ Carbon Footprint

SALT LAKE CITY — Dominion Energy Utah officially launched their new carbon offset program CarbonRight yesterday, making it available for customers to sign up for and add to their monthly bill.

CarbonRight is a new and affordable way for customers to significantly reduce their carbon footprint. It provides customers with an option to offset 100% of their carbon emissions from natural gas usage. It does so by complementing other clean-energy options in order to conserve energy, lower bills and reducing emissions.

“Our customers are looking for ways to have a positive impact on the environment,” Steven Ridge, Vice President and General Manager of Dominion Energy Utah said. “We share their passion, and we’re excited to deliver with this exciting new program. Our customers can now have more peace of mind knowing that their energy dollars are being spent to protect the environment.”

These carbon offsets presented by the program derive from projects that reduce landfill carbon emissions in Utah and Missouri, as well as a forest management project in Minnesota that captures emissions from the environment. The offsets are independently certified through a detailed and clear process to ensure they meet the required standards.

In order to participate, customers may purchase carbon offsets in $5 blocks which would be added to their monthly bill. A typical residential customer can offset 100% of their carbon footprint, achieving “net zero” carbon emissions from their natural gas usage. Notably, Dominion Energy does not mark up the cost of the carbon offsets, and does not earn a profit from this new program.

Customers can sign up online, through the Dominion Energy Utah mobile app or by calling their Customer Service department at 1-800-323-5517.
