Real Salt Lake will likely have new owners by the end of the year
SALT LAKE CITY — Part of a group that includes David Blitzer, who is a co-owner of the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers and NHL’s New Jersey Devils, appears to be nearing a deal to buy Real Salt Lake (RSL), according to Sportico.
In the past several years, Blitzer has invested in several soccer clubs in Europe, including the Premier League’s Crystal Palace.
Current owner Dell Loy Hansen announced last year his intention to sell RSL after reports of a toxic workplace culture became public.
MLS Commissioner Don Garber has said he expects RSL to have new owners before the end of 2021. Other potential buyers have included Utah Jazz owner Ryan Smith, NFL defensive end JJ Watt, and the owners of Park City-based POWDR.
RSL recently clinched a spot in the MLS playoffs. They will take on the Seattle Sounders in the first round in Washington on November 23 at 8 p.m.
