Mountain ridge visibility questioned in PCMR base rendering

PARK CITY, Utah —At the Park City Planning Commission meeting on Wednesday, PEG Development, the Provo firm looking to take over the base area of Park City Mountain Resort, was asked to offer a lower, street-level photo for their building proposal on Parcel D, which is at the intersection of Silver King Dr. and Empire Ave.

Chair of the Planning Commission, John Phillips, felt that PEG had done everything to demonstrate, however, yielded to the other commissioners in requesting the new rendering. “I have the ability to visualize the size and mass of these on-site because that’s what I do for a living. And I do, as I’ve stated before, feel comfortable. And I do feel that the heights that have been proposed are in line, and I don’t expect to see the ridge from every perspective.”

Along with members of the public that attended the meeting via Zoom, planning commissioners Bill Johnson, Douglas Thimm, and co-chair Laura Suesser said they felt the best move was to get an additional perspective.

Under question was specifically how the mountain views will be impacted by the building being proposed.

“I just really believe that we can get better photo simulations showing the adjacent buildings in a better view,” said Johnson.

“I’m a little baffled, to be honest with you,” said Rob Schmidt, President of PEG, in reply to the requests. “I feel like we’re going back in time.”

Schmidt later said PEG would develop a new street-level view from the location, but added “I think we’ve made a compelling case… we have done everything humanely possible to make this project — a beautiful, viable, quality project.”
