Katherine Wilson tapped as new Health Promotion Director for Summit County
SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — On Thursday, the Summit County Health Department announced that Katherine Wilson will serve as its new Health Promotion Director.
Wilson has been a Health Educator in the department since 2017. She will succeed Shelley Worley, who was appointed to Deputy Health Director in July.
“Katie brings not only a wealth of experience and knowledge of health promotion and education programs, but also a passion for the role the Health Department plays for the diverse residents we serve,” Deputy Health Director Shelley Worley said. “I have worked closely with Katie for many years and I admire her desire to empower people to improve their own health and that of the broader Summit County community. I am looking forward to the energy and vision Katie brings to the department.”
Wilson is a graduate of Park City High School and the University of Utah. In her free time, she is a certified sommelier. She learned her skills working for a wine distribution company during graduate school.
“Katie brings new energy and a fresh perspective to our team,” Health Director Phil Bondurant said. “I welcome the opportunity to work with and learn from Katie in her new role. She has a vision, a plan, and a strong desire to ‘be the good’ in Summit County. She has my full support to make it happen.”
As a Health Educator in the county, Wilson has worked closely with both early childcare facilities and the school systems to promote nutrition and physical activity.
The project Wilson is most proud of is her work on Break the Vape Week, which served to discourage the use of electronic cigarettes.
“I am honored and humbled by this opportunity and am eager to continue working closely with our amazing staff and community,” Wilson said. “Being raised in Summit County, I know how truly remarkable this place is and I am looking forward to expanding upon the many programs we offer to help improve the health and well-being of our residents.”
