Overnight mapping measures Parley’s Canyon Fire at 539 acres
SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — New aerial mapping Sunday night produced an updated measurement of 539 acres for the Parley’s Canyon Fire, still at 10 percent containment.
“The highest priority on the fire is the safety of the public and firefighters,” a Utah Fire Info post said. “Other priorities include protecting the municipal watershed. Closures and evacuations will be continually evaluated to reduce or lift when it is safe to do so.”
Great Basin Team #4 assumed command of the fire on Monday morning. The Team is working out of the Incident Command Post (ICP) established at the Park City Ice Arena. Fire traffic will be heavy in the area around early mornings and late evenings.
Currently, eastbound traffic on I-80 is restricted to the left two lanes to protect firefighters working near the highway.
The fire’s behavior on Sunday was minimal, despite strong winds in the afternoon.
Firefighters are currently on all sections of the perimeter.
Helicopters, air tankers, and water scoopers are all dropping water and retardant on active portions of the blaze to support the ground crew.
Two helicopters from the Utah National Guard will also support the firefight on Monday.
Heavy smoke is expected throughout the day.
Mandatory evacuation orders for Summit Park, Pinebrook, and Lambs Canyon are still in place.
The Uintah-Wasatch-Cache National Forest has also implemented a closure that includes the Mill Creek and Winter Canyon area. The full map of the closure order can be viewed here.
