Winter Olympic Season starts this week at Utah Olympic Park
PARK CITY, Utah — The Olympic ski season will start this week at Utah Olympic Park, with USA Nordic’s U.S. Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined Championships.
Top athletes from around the globe will compete in what is seen as a warm-up event heading into the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.
This competition will be the first national championships in two years because of the pandemic. The series is part of the 22nd annual Jindro Mayer Springer Tournee, a weeklong ski jumping festival for athletes of all ages.
On Friday, July 30, the U.S. Ski Jumping Championship on the HS100m hill will take place.
On Saturday, July 31, both the U.S. Ski Jumping Championships and the U.S. Nordic Combined Championships will commence on the HS134m hill.
The U.S. Championships will have title events on both the HS100 and HS134 meter Olympic hills.
The U.S. Nordic Combined Championship will be on the HS134m jumped along with a 10k roller ski event. The jumping events will be at Utah Olympic Park, while the roller skiing finals will take place at the Olympic venue at Soldier Hollow near Midway.
“The U.S. Championships are a vital event for our athletes in preparation for the Olympic season ahead,” said USA Nordic Sport Director Jed Hinkley. “Winning a national title is always important, but this year athletes also need to be prepped for competition as they head into Olympic qualifying events on the Grand Prix and Continental Cup tours around the world this summer and fall.”
The weeklong Springer Tournee festival will have ski jumping and nordic combined workshops, training sessions, and competitions across the full range of jumps offered at Utah Olympic Park. The event is organized for USA Nordic by Park City Ski & Snowboard.
This year’s Tournee is dedicated to two ski jumping officials who recently passed away — former athlete and Olympic coach Corby Fisher and legendary ski jumping official Chuck Heckert.
