University of Utah Hospital ranked top in the state

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — U.S. News & World Report recently rated the University of Utah Hospital No. 1 in the state. Runners-up were Intermountain Regional Hospital in St. George and Intermountain Medical Center in Murray.

The University of Utah is nationally ranked in two adult specialties- cancer care (41st in the country) and ophthalmology (13th).

It’s the first year the eye center was published on the list.

“This ranking is difficult to attain for non-coastal institutions like ours and acknowledges our patients are receiving some of the best eye care in the country,” said Moran Eye Center CEO and Department of Ophthalmology Professor and Chair Randall Olson. “Our doctors, medical personnel, and staff all work together to provide hope, understanding, and treatment to each of our patients. That really makes all the difference.”

The rankings are determined by a multitude of variables, such as risk-adjusted survival and discharge-to-home rates, volume, and quality of nursing. More than 4,500 medical centers across the country were evaluated.
