Ice Miners playing catch-up at hockey nationals
OMAHA, Nebraska. — The Ice Miners’ skates hit the rink Thursday for their first game in the national championship tournament. The final score did not go the way the Miners would have liked as they lost 4-0 against Denver’s Valor Christian High School. Valor Christian made all four goals in the third period.
Division 1 tournament action continues tomorrow against Heneig High School from Maryland and again on Saturday against Edina, the Minnesota perennial powerhouse.

In 2019, the champions were Santa Margarita Catholic High School out of California, with the runners-up from Edina Junior Gold A in Minnesota.
The 2021 Chipoltle Hockey National Championships is also hosting youth, women’s and sled hockey tournaments, all under COVID restrictions.
USA Hockey nationals has produced many athletes who went on to illustrious careers in the sport, including two-time Olympian Cammi Granato, two-time Olympian Sydney Crosby, and four-time Olympian Julie Chu.
