Park City Avalanche Victim Rescue Efforts on Hold Until Sunday morning

UPDATE: Park City Resident Killed in Massive Square Top Avalanche

UPDATE: Rescue operations resumed Sunday morning at 7:00am. The Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter and Summit County Search and Rescue are working the scene.

PARK CITY, Utah. — Summit County Sheriff Justin Martinez confirmed an avalanche in the Square Top area earlier today buried at least one person. The avalanche area is located outside of the resort boundaries at Park City Mountain Canyons Village.

The avalanche was triggered by two skiers – one of the skiers was caught in the avalanche. The friend was able to dig to the buried skier and attempt life saving efforts. Given the extreme avalanche danger, rescuers were unable to get to the area and the friend was forced to leave for his own safety.

Summit County Search and Rescue, with assistance from the Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter, will resume rescue efforts in the morning.

This is a developing story and we will keep you posted as more information becomes available.
