Educate Yourself About Wildfire Threat to Homes
SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah. — The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has a free interactive online course in English and Spanish for those looking to learn about the threat of wildfires to homes. This past summer and fall, Utah experienced its own slew of wildfires and a number of days filled with smoke from the fires in California. Put simply: there’s no better time to begin education about wildfires.
The NFPA course is video-based and takes 30 minutes to complete. It covers the threat of wildfire to homes and communities, three things that can affect the speed and intensity of a wildfire, the primary sources of ignition for a home during a wildfire.
Dr. Jack Cohen, USFS Ret., appears in the course, explaining that if homes do not ignite, they can’t burn. Taking this course means being firewise in 2021.
