Fatal Accident Closes Marsac Ave.
PARK CITY, Utah. — The steep, winding portion of Marsac Avenue near mile marker three was the site of another tragedy Wednesday morning. According to Utah Department of Transportation Trooper Chris Bishop, a car traveling too fast coming downhill lost control, and hit another car and a small truck. One of the drivers was killed, and two other people involved sustained minor injuries.
Highway patrol identified the victim as Orem resident Daniel Wakefield, 53.
The road was closed in both directions until approximately 11 a.m., and a detour for the 9 Purple bus route was in place until further notice.
“Traffic will be closed both directions for 3-4 hours,” said Park City Police Captain Phillip Kirk in a statement on Twitter. “Utah Highway Patrol is handling the initial investigation. PCPD assisting with traffic control.”
The section of Marsac Ave. between Hillside Ave. and Wheaton Way has been the site of numerous accidents over the years. While winter conditions increase risk, Bishop said troopers had not yet determined if weather or road conditions were a factor in Wednesday’s accident.
