PCHS Miners girls soccer team beats Murray High 5-0 on Senior Night

PARK CITY, Utah — The Park City Miners girls varsity soccer team beat Murray High on Thursday night at home with a final score of 5 – 0.

The five goals for the now 14-and-1 Miners were scored by Sawyer Sheffert, Maddy McCallion, Mallory Carter, Elsa Dellenbach, and Hailey Olsen.

The game also celebrated the team’s seniors: Sadie Thimm, Josie Peterson, Kelly Hough, Hailey Olsen, Juniper Hales, Addison Bowers, Carmen Fletcher, Tia Peay, Sawyer Sheffert, Elsa Dellenbach, Marley Filippone, Gracie Bullock, Sadie Weissman, and Lizzy Schlegel. 

Olsen, who is serving as team captain this year, has verbally committed to attend and play soccer for Rice University in Texas, signing day is in November. Her career goals include becoming a high school teacher and a soccer coach.

“It was a great game,” Olsen told TownLift afterwards.”Senior night is always special, especially getting to play on Dozier under the lights with our amazing crowd. The team played really well, it was definitely a team effort. This team is so talented and hardworking. I’m excited to see what we can do in our last three games and in playoffs. I love being part of a team that works so well together and so hard for each other. We’ve got the most amazing girls on and off the field.”

Olsen’s love of the beautiful game began at Park City Day School, then Trailside Elementary. She played through her time at Ecker Hill Middle School and on through Treasure Mountain Junior High. She, like many of her teammates, has played for Park City Soccer Club, too. One of her first coaches there was beloved Coach Patty who is a current Park City High School assistant coach. 

Sheffert, one of the other seniors, is photographed above with her family. Her older brother, a graduate of PCHS, is playing soccer for his college now, and her parents have a history of opening their homes for weekly Team Dinners.

Girls on the Park City Soccer Club’s U9 squad took time away from their training schedule to create bedazzled and glittered poster board photo wall art, one for each of the 14 seniors.  They were hanging on display for all the spectators to enjoy as they entered the stadium at Dozier Field.  

After the game, the girls attended the annual Homecoming Bonfire in the Park City High School parking lot.

Next up, Park City plays in Salt Lake against Juan Diego Catholic High School Monday night.
