Park City Fire crews respond to small fire at St. Regis hotel, contained to gazebo

PARK CITY, Utah — Park City and Wasatch Fire Departments responded to a fire at the St. Regis hotel Wednesday evening. The blaze was contained to a gazebo behind the hotel.

The cause remains under investigation, but officials say the fire was likely sparked by a fireplace in the gazebo, as no other ignition sources were found.

Battalion Chief McKay Wadley of Park City Fire reported that the department was called to the scene around 11:30 p.m. “There was actually some staff on site that used an extinguisher prior to our arrival,” said Wadley. “They did a good job keeping it in check until we were able to get there and get water on it.”

Crews knocked down the fire in about five minutes and remained on scene for roughly two hours.

No evacuations were needed as the fire was isolated to the gazebo outside the hotel, though damage to the structure’s roof was extensive.

“It really is a testament to how well we communicate with [our partners in Wasatch County],” Wadley said of the joint response. “Sometimes we even train together, and we’re able to operate seamlessly with those other agencies.”
