Free tax clinic for Park City seniors set for March 31

PARK CITY, Utah — Park City seniors can receive free help preparing their taxes later this month at the Park City Senior Center.

Jovana Sisovic, director of Westminster University’s Tax Institute, and a team of IRS-certified volunteers will host a free tax assistance clinic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, at the senior center, according to Park City Senior Citizens Inc.

The clinic is open to seniors 60 and older and will offer 16 appointments in 30-minute time slots on a first-come, first-served basis.

The volunteers are part of Westminster’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, which provides free tax preparation and electronic filing for older adults, low- to moderate-income individuals and families, people with disabilities, military members and veterans, members of Native American tribes, and taxpayers with limited English proficiency.

In addition to preparing and filing federal and multistate tax returns, the program can help connect participants with other forms of assistance, including food, medical, and child care benefits through the Utah Department of Workforce Services; property tax abatements and delinquency assistance through the Salt Lake County Treasurer’s Office; and housing, heat, and weatherization support through Utah Community Action.

The program also helps coordinate appointments with financial assistance organizations that offer services such as debt management, credit and budget counseling, foreclosure prevention, home repair programs, and down payment assistance, according to the announcement.

To make an appointment, seniors can add their name to the sign-up sheet at the senior center or call Executive Director Trason Dixon at 801-613-2329 by Monday, March 30. Participants should bring all applicable tax documents to their appointment.

Sisovic can be reached at 801-832-2635 or jsisovic@westminsteru.edu for questions about the clinic or the Tax Institute.

Park City Senior Citizens Inc. is a nonprofit that provides programming, activities, and advocacy for seniors 60 and older. The senior center is located at 1361 Woodside Ave.
