Summit County Democrats name interim chair after Swensen elected Coalville mayor

COALVILLE, Utah — The Summit County Democratic Party announced a leadership transition after Rory Swensen was elected mayor of Coalville, prompting him to step down as county party chair.

Swensen formally resigned as chair to focus on serving Coalville residents in his new role, according to the party. The party’s executive committee accepted his resignation during a meeting.

At that same meeting, the executive committee unanimously approved Anne Kirvan to serve as interim chair. The appointment is expected to be presented for ratification by party delegates at the next meeting of the party’s central committee, anticipated for late January.

“Serving as Chair of the Summit County Democratic Party has been an honor,” Swensen said in a statement. “Stepping down from party leadership enables me to serve all Coalville residents with greater focus and integrity. I am confident in the continued strength of the party and in Anne Kirvan’s leadership during this transition.”

The party said Kirvan has a record of service and organizing in Summit County and will oversee party operations and activities as interim chair to maintain continuity and stability ahead of the central committee ratification vote.

Kirvan’s interim appointment is set to continue until the party’s scheduled executive committee elections early next year, the party said.

The Summit County Democratic Party thanked Swensen for his leadership and said it expects to continue its work advancing Democratic priorities throughout the county.
