PARK CITY, Utah — The U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team on Wednesday named Rosie Brennan to Team USA for her third Olympic Winter Games in cross country skiing and Ben Loomis for his third time as an Olympian in Nordic combined.
Brennan, 37, grew up in Park City and skied on the Park City Ski & Snowboard Team. After graduating from the Park City High School, she skied at Dartmouth before moving to Alaska. Now skiing in what will be her third Olympics, she still spends considerable time in Park City and training year-round at Soldier Hollow Nordic Center in Midway.
That’s where TownLift caught up with Coach Liz Stephen on Saturday coaching the Park City Ski & Snowboard Cross Country team. She’s also a three time Olympic cross country ski athlete. “We’re all so thrilled for Rosie to have just been named to her third Games,” said Stephen. “No one works harder than Rosie, she is an amazing ambassador for the sport and for Park City.”

Loomis, 27, has lived in Park City half his life after moving here from Wisconsin, where he was a member of the Flying Eagles Ski Club. He graduated from the Winter Sports School in Park City then worked on Main St. at the Red Banjo Pizzaria. Milan Cortina will mark his third Olympic Games, all the while participating in the Elite Athlete program via the Utah National Guard.
After living in Park City for so many years and training at the Utah Olympic Park and Soldier Hollow Nordic Center, Loomis recently started splitting his time between Salt Lake City and Norway, where the U.S. Ski Team partners with the coaching staff of the Norwegian Ski Team. Loomis has also found time to earn his college degree. His brother is a former World Championship level nordic combined athlete who coaches the Park City Ski & Snowboard Team. Their father, among other friends and family, will be traveling to Italy to watch the Games live.

On Saturday, Park City’s Billy Demong, who coaches for the Park City Ski and Snowboard Team, told TownLift at Soldier Hollow, “Congratulations to Ben for being named to his third Olympics.” Demong is an Olympic gold and silver medalist in Nordic combined. “He’s a great American athlete for our sport and this is an exciting time for him and for Nordic Combined USA.”
