Police Log: Lights, cameras, and police calls as traffic, noise complaints rise during Sundance Film Festival

With the final Sundance Film Festival underway, this week’s police log was filled with parking complaints and reports of disturbing the peace. Park City Police Department officers deployed drones multiple times to monitor high-traffic areas and were vigilant in enforcing traffic laws.

Monday, January 19

Incident: DUI
Deputies conducted a traffic stop for a moving violation and observed indicators of intoxication. The driver performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was arrested and booked without incident on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Incident: Traffic stop
A vehicle entered the Swede Alley Transit Center parking lot, which was closed to the public.

Incident: Business assist
A Main Street business reported a guest who was urinating on the floor and still on the premises at the time of the call.

Incident: Juvenile problem
A caller on Little Belle Court reported five to six teenage boys skiing on a pool railing, causing damage. The caller requested they be removed.

Tuesday, January 20

Incident: Disturbing the peace
A caller on Main Street reported a construction company working with a crane and making excessive noise in the middle of the night and questioned whether the activity was allowed.

Incident: Vagrancy
Three people were reported sleeping in a transit center near Main Street.

Incident: Business assist
The Main Street Post Office requested assistance due to issues setting up for Sundance, reporting people blocking mailboxes.

Wednesday, January 21

Incident: DUI
Deputies stopped a vehicle for canceled registration and discovered the driver had a suspended license. The driver was also found in possession of marijuana and a firearm. After performing poorly on field sobriety tests, the driver was arrested for DUI.

Incident: Traffic complaint
A caller reported vehicles traveling 40–45 mph in a 25 mph zone near Meadows Drive and Gallivan Loop and requested speed enforcement.

Thursday, January 22

Incident: Parking problem
A vehicle was parked in front of a fire hydrant, a no-parking sign, and within 15 feet of an intersection near Cooke Drive and Stryker Avenue.

Incident: Suspicious
A worker near Kearns Boulevard reported finding a drug pipe at a job site and requested an officer retrieve it.

Incident: Traffic stop
A driver previously warned for impeding traffic made an improper U-turn on Heber Avenue and Park Avenue, blocking traffic.

Incident: Parking problem
A caller reported a blue Chevy Suburban with Florida plates parked illegally near China Bridge on Swede Alley.

Friday, January 23

Incident: Traffic stop
A driver was stopped on Swede Alley for making an improper U-turn without sufficient line of sight and was warned.

Incident: Motorist assist
An Uber driver was reported stopped in the center lane near Bonanza Drive and Deer Valley Drive while waiting for a fare.

Incident: Suspicious
A Parks employee reported witnessing a vehicle throw a rock through a window on Main Street.

Incident: Citizen assist
A resident reported a tenant who locked himself inside a home on Upper Iron Horse Loop after receiving an eviction notice and was acting belligerently.

Incident: Traffic hazard
Multiple vehicles were reported backing into Richardson Flat Road, creating a traffic hazard.

Saturday, January 24

Incident: Disturbing the peace
A caller on Woodside Avenue reported loud bass music and requested anonymity.

Incident: Traffic complaint
Drivers were reported speeding through the Prospector Avenue and Bonanza Drive area due to Sundance congestion.

Incident: Traffic complaint
A caller reported vehicles using Mellow Mountain Road as a Sundance bypass and traveling 40–50 mph.

Incident: Drugs
Deputies contacted occupants of a suspicious van and trailer parked along SR-32 near High Star Ranch. Both occupants had active warrants and suspended licenses. A search revealed drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine. Both were arrested on drug charges and outstanding warrants.

Incident: DUI
Deputies located a vehicle after reports of erratic driving. The driver showed signs of impairment, performed poorly on sobriety tests, and was found in possession of methamphetamine. The driver was arrested for suspicion of DUI and possession of a controlled substance.

Sunday, January 25

Incident: Citizen assist
An Uber driver at the Park City Library reported an individual holding the vehicle door open and telling them to turn off the car.

Incident: Disturbing the peace
A caller on Woodside Avenue reported loud music and requested anonymity.

Incident: Disturbing the peace
A caller reported approximately 50 people on a deck making excessive noise above a Lowell Avenue address.

Incident: Disturbing the peace
A large party with an estimated 70 vehicles was reported on Estates Drive.

Incident: Interfering with a peace officer
A driver stopped near the Overland Trailhead was found to have an active warrant and refused to exit the vehicle. Deputies forcibly removed the driver, who resisted arrest. An open container was also found within reach. The individual was booked into the Summit County Jail on charges.
