Gondola mishap at Park City Mountain leaves woman hanging upside down by ski boot

SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — A woman was suspended and dragged by her ski boot Tuesday after it became trapped in the doors of a Red Pine Gondola cabin at Park City Mountain’s Canyons Village.

The incident occurred shortly after 1 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. According to an eyewitness, the woman attempted to board the gondola late. As the cabin doors closed, she placed her foot in the doorway, causing the doors to clamp onto her ski boot.

The gondola continued moving, dragging the woman an estimated 50 feet beyond the loading terminal before the lift was stopped. She was left hanging upside down in the air, supported only by her trapped boot.

Park City Mountain employees ran to support the woman’s body while a ladder was brought in. Workers then unbuckled the ski boot from the gondola doors and safely lowered her to the ground.

The Red Pine Gondola was stopped for about 10 minutes while the woman was rescued. Park City Mountain representatives have not responded to requests for comment or released information on whether the woman was injured.

Editor’s note: Video of the incident was removed at the request of the individual involved.
