Summit County Health Department highlights school vaccine clinics at Tuesday board meeting

PARK CITY, Utah — Leaders from the Summit County Health Department told the Park City School District Board of Education on Tuesday night that their collaboration with the district has expanded opportunities to offer vaccines at schools and connect directly with families.

Phil Bondurant, director of the Summit County Health Department, said Superintendent Lyndsay Huntsman has strengthened the district’s partnership with public health, describing it as a shift in how the agencies work together.

Derek Moss, the Summit County Health Department’s nursing director, said the department recently administered “over 100 vaccines” at a clinic held during parent-teacher conferences at Trailside Elementary School, serving families, students, and staff.

Moss said the Summit County Health Department is entering the flu and COVID-19 season and has provided vaccines through multiple avenues, including clinics staffed by school personnel. pasted

Moss shared that the Summit County Health Department also held a measles clinic at McPolin and is watching measles closely, noting it is “surrounding Summit County right now.”

Moss said school-based clinics are intended to improve access and to create opportunities to answer questions and share information with families in person.

Board members also discussed aligning public health and district communications. Bondurant cited a communication sent ahead of Thanksgiving break that he said the district invited the Summit County Health Department to help review for accuracy — an example, he said, of closer coordination on public messaging.

Moss said the Summit County Health Department plans to keep offering school-based clinics and adjust outreach based on what barriers families and staff face, adding that clear, consistent communication will be key as the district and health department move into the winter season.
