PARK CITY, Utah — Mayoral candidate Jack Rubin has requested a recount in the Park City election after finishing seven votes behind Councilmember Ryan Dickey in the certified results.
The Park City Council canvassed the Nov. 5 election on Tuesday, confirming Dickey as the winner with 1,706 votes to Rubin’s 1,699. State law allows a candidate to request a recount within three days of certification if the margin is within 0.25%. City Recorder Michelle Kellogg said she received Rubin’s request by email at 2:06 p.m. Thursday.
The deadline to request a recount is 5 p.m. Friday, and state statute requires the recount to be completed within seven days of the request.
The recount process begins Friday with a required logic and accuracy test of the election equipment, followed immediately by ballot counting. Kellogg outlined the schedule as follows:
Friday, Nov. 21, 8 a.m.: Logic and accuracy test, then ballot count
Monday, Nov. 24, 8 a.m.: Ballot count continues
Tuesday, Nov. 25, 8 a.m.: Ballot count continues; ballot audit in the afternoon
Wednesday, Nov. 26, 8:30 a.m.: Park City Council canvasses the recount
The margin between the candidates narrowed from 11 votes in the preliminary results to seven after 14 ballots were cured by the clerk’s office.
