Fanatics find ‘Fuzz’ Feddersen’s famous freestyle friends, fellow Olympians

PARK CITY, Utah — The Olympic orbit of Olympian Kris “Fuzz” Feddersen, in this Olympic year, is ever expanding as he arranges for other Olympians to make highly sought-after public appearances via his aptly named endeavor, Ski SuperStars.

He’s had the business for more than a decade whereby people can book speaking engagements of all kinds, all around the country and the globe, from all types of Olympians.

Some of his events have included the following athletes, by no means is it is an exhaustive list:

  • Phil and Steve Mahre
  • Nikki Stone
  • Chris Waddell
  • Eric Bergoust
  • Chris Lillis
  • Ashley Caldwell
  • Shannon Bahrke
  • Billy Demong
  • Doug Lewis
  • Eric Schlopy,
  • Emily Cook
  • Derek Parra
  • Jonny Moseley
  • Picabo Street

An Olympian himself, the Park City resident competed in the  Lillehammer, Albertville, and Calgary Games finishing in 11th, 5th, and 4th places respectively in the ski discipline of freestyle aerials. He was so ahead of the trends even back then that his first Olympics was merely an demonstration event. Feddersen also won two World Cup aerials events, one in Italy and the other in Austria. In 2013 he was inducted into the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame.

In fact way back when the Utah Olympic Park was called the Utah Winter Sports Park, Feddersen and pioneering partner Olympian Trace “The Ace” Worthington helped create the concept of not only utilizing a swimming pool for training safety but for entertainment purposes. Feddersen can still be heard announcing the weekend shows at the UOP.

People often move their whole families to Park City for the chance to train into the pool venue, and it’s such a prolofic place that the U.S. Ski & Snowboard requires athletes to live here, unlike most other disciplines. After performing training jumps in the summer in the water a hundred times, jumpers next repeat those numbers at the ‘Park’ on snow, then they can compete at places like Deer Valley if they qualify for the annual World Cup.

His teenage hair style, or more accurately lack thereof, is how Feddersen he got that nickname about his naturally curly locks.

“While running Flying Ace Productions I had many clients that were interested in our Olympic themed entertainment, when it was not possible for them to have one of our shows I would pitch having an Olympic athlete, or a few, come for an appearance or speaking opportunity,” Feddersen told TownLift. “Sometimes these turned into a day of skiing and sometimes they were keynote or motivational speaking. Knowing so many great athletes it was fun to put them into an event where they would be acknowledged and entertain a group of people that might not have known who they were before this interaction.”

“I feel that every athlete has an incredible story of how they got to the highest level of their sport, and our clients are very interested in their accomplishments,” Feddersen said.

When asked, if he typically reaches out to his Olympian connections or if they reach out to him to be included, he explained that most of the athletes he books stem from personal relationships, but every now and then he will get a call from someone interested in doing some appearances.

For a while they did some exhibitions at the pool in Lake Placid, NY and, “I have not ever heard of any in other places.” The first show that Worthington and he produced was in Lake Placid in 1989. They were both still competing at that time, it was a fundraiser to raise money for them to have a coach.

Still raising money for good causes, he participates in the Deer Valley annual Shred For Red fundraiser for childhood blood cancers.

The quintessential question for all levels of skiers, even, or especially experts like Feddersen, is ‘How many days per year do you average on snow lately?’ to which he answered, at least 30, when not working. Working for him looks like the product and program known as Ski With A Champion at Deer Valley Resort of which Feddersen is the founder, the manager, and a member.

Regarding just what types of events he’s arranged athletes for it’s been fundraisers, corporate meetings, product launch events, convention booths, corporate ski and golf outings, Sundance parties, and their open to ideas in the future, no gathering is too small or too big.

His adult son Luke has been involved with the sport of freestyle diving as of late, after doing freestyle skiing growing up in Park City and has traveled to events all over the world this year, mostly to film. The Freestyle diving world is a very small community and “he loves it.”  See Luke below.

We’ll leave it up to dad and son to decide whether arguably which one kept up the longest with the other one’s high flying flipping fun through the years.

One thing that’s clear though is that when some Olympians retire it can seem like the beginning of the end of their positive impact in the world, however when Olympian Fuzz Feddersen retired, it was the end of the beginning.
