Utah’s iconic ice castles will skip 2025-26 season, plan future return

MIDWAY, Utah — Excitement for the Midway Ice Castles has melted away after the organization announced Wednesday that they will take a year hiatus from their Utah location.

“As we shift into a new chapter, we’re pausing our Utah location this season to thoughtfully rework our build process and better adapt for future weather conditions,” they wrote on a social media post.

But they assured their audience that this is “most certainly NOT a goodbye for good.”

The company didn’t confirm whether they would be returning to their same location near the Soldier’s Hollow Nordic Center.

The Ice Castles have been a staple in Utah since 2011, when founder Brent Christensen first crafted a castle in the yard of his home in Alpine.

However, this past season, Ice Castles had to shut down early because of unseasonably warm temperatures that quickly melted the ice structures.

Meanwhile, ice castles for the 2025-26 season are being constructed in Colorado, Minnesota, New Hampshire, and Edmonton.

“We look forward to returning soon, stronger and more inspired than ever,” the attraction shared.
