PARK CITY, Utah — Park City Community Foundation is happy to announce that over 1300 households are now participating in their curbside food waste pickup program. In the one year that the program has been operational, Andy Hecht reports: “Collectively, we have diverted more than 800 tons of food waste from the Summit County landfill, preventing 24.5 tons of methane into the atmosphere, and saving taxpayers the equivalent of $100,000+ in landfill space.”
Spoil to Soil is operational as it appeals loss of permit
For many months, food waste was being processed locally in Summit County. Due to some issues with permitting at the property used by Spoil to Soil, the Park City Community Foundation has created a backup plan, which will haul food waste back to Wasatch Resource Recovery in the Salt Lake Valley. Customers will not see any lapse in their service. Momentum Recycling handles the pick-up and hauling.
Currently the loss of permit has been stayed. “Spoil to Soil is operational through the appeal process. Food waste is still coming in and Spoil to Soil is working towards a positive resolution with the county,” says Kylee Mimbach. “We are working towards continuing to help the community through composting.”
The tour of the facility planned by Recycle Utah is still expected to take place.
