PARK CITY, Utah — Park City Community Foundation has launched a new Leader Lab aimed at increasing diversity in local nonprofit governance and civic leadership.
The seven-month program will train and mentor emerging leaders from underrepresented communities, including Latinx and LGBTQ+ residents, to prepare them for roles on boards, committees, and other decision-making bodies.
“We are excited to launch this program because we know that when we expand the voices at the table, we strengthen our entire community,” said Diego Zegarra, vice president of impact at Park City Community Foundation.
The initiative addresses what organizers describe as a long-standing gap in nonprofit leadership. By offering workshops, mentorship, and networking opportunities, the program aims to open pathways for community members who have historically been underrepresented in such positions.
“This isn’t just about filling seats on boards,” said Joel Zarrow, the foundation’s CEO. “It’s about ensuring that the people making decisions about our community’s future truly represent and understand the needs of all residents.”
Participants will take part in seven modules covering leadership, nonprofit governance, local government, advocacy, cultural competency, financial management and professional networking. Facilitators include nonprofit professionals, community leaders and private-sector representatives.
The first cohort will include up to 10 people and will begin Nov. 3, with evening sessions held once a month. Applications are open until Oct. 12 at 11:59 p.m.
