PARK CITY, Utah — Jim Bedell is stepping down as General Manager of Recycle Utah effective Thursday, according to an announcement from the non-profit.
Bedell has led the organization since June 2024, when he stepped up from his role as a board member following the previous executive director Carolyn Wawra’s resignation due to health challenges.
“On behalf of the board of directors, we are deeply grateful for Jim’s service, leadership and passion for Recycle Utah,” said Ken Barfield, Chair of the Recycle Utah Board. “His strategic thinking helped Recycle Utah to envision a comprehensive waste management relocation to best serve the needs of our growing community. His dedication has left an enduring mark on our organization and community.”
The Board of Directors will immediately begin the process of identifying and recruiting a new Executive Director, according to the statement. “In the interim, the active board will lead together in ensuring a smooth transition and maintain Recycle Utah’s commitment to reducing waste, conserving resources, and engaging the community in environmental stewardship.”
This news comes amid growing concerns for Recycle Utah’s future. The organization must leave their current site by September 1, 2026, and will cease recycling operations on June 30, 2026. The non-profit has been working with Park City and Summit County to seek an agreement on a future location and site funding.
