PARK CITY, Utah — Friends and neighbors are rallying around Park City native Meghan Kahn, who is living with ALS, by hosting a local fundraiser on October 11 to help support her care and medical expenses.
Kahn grew up in Park City, attending Parley’s Park Elementary, Treasure Mountain Junior High, and graduating from Park City High School in 2003. She later moved to Oregon for college and now lives in Portland with her husband and two children, where she works as an elementary school teacher.
An avid skier, trail runner, and community advocate, Kahn has inspired many through her love of the outdoors. But in 2023, at just 38 years old, she was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a progressive disease that weakens muscles and limits mobility.
Kahn’s family says her daily life is changing rapidly as her strength and breathing capacity decline. They are navigating the challenges of costly medical care, adaptive equipment, and home modifications. To help, they are bringing the community together for a fundraiser this fall, with Meghan and her family traveling back to Park City to attend.
The event will start at 9 a.m. at the Fieldhouse with a group workout class led by multiple instructors bringing energy, motivation, and community spirit (register here). Participates are then invited to Matt Knoop Memorial Park for a short walk and coffee (register here).
How to help
Proceeds from the fundraiser will:
Provide Meghan with essential medical equipment for safer, more comfortable living.
Support in-home care and therapies to help her spend more time with her children and family.
Contribute to ALS research aimed at developing treatments and, ultimately, a cure.
In-kind donations will also help raise funds to ease the family’s financial burden.
Community members are invited to attend the October 11 fundraiser, make a monetary donation, or contribute in-kind support.
