UDOT seeks public input on plans to widen U.S. 40 in Heber City

HEBER CITY, Utah – The Utah Department of Transportation is preparing for a major upgrade to U.S. 40 in Heber City south of the US-189 intersection to Center Creek Road and the organization is asking residents to weigh in before work begins.

The proposal calls for widening the highway from the U.S. 189 junction to Center Creek Road, expanding it to five lanes with 12-foot shoulders. A new traffic signal is also slated for installation at 1500 South, the busy intersection that serves the Heber Valley Hospital, courthouse, and sheriff’s office.

UDOT says the project is designed to increase capacity, improve safety, and upgrade important infrastructure along the corridor.

A public hearing is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 25, at 5:30 p.m. at the Wasatch County Courthouse, where agency staff will be on hand to explain the plans and answer questions.

Residents can also submit feedback by email at us40improved@utah.gov through Oct. 9. The new traffic light is expected to be in place this fall, while the widening project is planned for the 2026 construction season.
