SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Utah ranks 50th in the nation for women’s equality, according to a new WalletHub study that compares disparities between men and women across all 50 states
WalletHub, a personal finance website known for producing national data studies on issues ranging from credit scores to education, based its women’s equality rankings on 17 indicators across three categories: Workplace Environment, Education and Health, and Political Empowerment.
Utah placed last in both Workplace Environment and Education and Health, while ranking 28th in Political Empowerment. WalletHub gave Utah an overall score of 29.93 out of 100. The study weighted Workplace Environment and Education and Health equally at 40 percent each, with Political Empowerment accounting for 20 percent. Indicators included factors such as income disparities, representation in leadership roles, unemployment rates, educational attainment, and legislative representation.
By contrast, the top-ranked state, Vermont, earned a score of 79.63 and placed first in both Workplace Environment and Education and Health. WalletHub noted that “the best states for women’s equality have drastically reduced the disparities between men and women on multiple fronts,” while Utah continues to rank at the bottom.
