Tony Hawk’s Vert Alert returns to Salt Lake City with world-class vert skating, legends demo

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Sports Commission presents Tony Hawk’s Vert Alert, a free, two-day vert skateboarding competition and Legends Demo taking place July 18–19 at the Jon M. Huntsman Center on the University of Utah campus. The event gathers top professional vert skaters from around the globe, including icons from skateboarding’s past and present.

The Friday and Saturday event includes semifinals, finals, best trick contests, and a rare Legends Demo, with appearances from some of the sport’s most recognized names. Admission is free and open to the public.

Friday schedule: semifinals and legends demo

Doors open at 2 p.m. on Friday. Women’s semifinals begin at 4 p.m., followed by the men’s semifinals at 5:45 p.m. The schedule is as follows:

  • 4:00–4:15 p.m.: Women’s semifinals warm-up, Group 1
  • 4:15–4:45 p.m.: Women’s semifinals, Group 1
  • 4:45–5:00 p.m.: Women’s semifinals warm-up, Group 2
  • 5:00–5:30 p.m.: Women’s semifinals, Group 2
  • 5:30–5:45 p.m.: Men’s semifinals warm-up, Group 1
  • 5:45–6:15 p.m.: Men’s semifinals, Group 1
  • 6:15–6:30 p.m.: Men’s semifinals warm-up, Group 2
  • 6:30–7:00 p.m.: Men’s semifinals, Group 2
  • 7:05–8:05 p.m.: Legends Demo

Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero, Bucky Lasek, Mike McGill, Andy Macdonald, Lizzie Armanto, Sandro Dias, Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins Pastrana, Mike Frazier, Kevin Staab and Rune Glifberg are scheduled to appear in the Legends Demo. Jason Ellis will serve as emcee.

Saturday schedule: finals, best trick and awards

Final rounds and best trick competitions highlight Saturday’s events, beginning with doors opening at 2 p.m. The full schedule is:

  • 2:15–3:00 p.m.: Women’s finals practice
  • 3:00–3:30 p.m.: Women’s finals
  • 3:30–4:15 p.m.: Men’s finals practice
  • 4:15–4:45 p.m.: Men’s finals
  • 4:50–5:10 p.m.: Women’s best trick
  • 5:10–5:30 p.m.: Men’s best trick
  • 5:30–5:50 p.m.: Awards

Know before you go: venue policies

Skateboards are not allowed inside the venue. A designated skateboard check will be located outside the arena doors.

The Jon M. Huntsman Center will enforce the University of Utah’s clear bag policy. Each attendee may bring one clear bag no larger than 12 inches by 12 inches by 6 inches, or a one-gallon clear plastic storage bag. In addition, a small clutch or purse is permitted for personal items.
