Skip the crowds, beat the 4th of July rush and discover Park City in June

PARK CITY, Utah — While July tends to steal the spotlight as Park City’s busiest summer month, savvy locals and visitors know that June is the sweet spot. With thinner crowds, cooler mornings, and a fresh lineup of seasonal activities, early summer offers the perfect opportunity to experience the best of the Wasatch without the wait. Whether you’re looking to explore high-alpine trails, try something new for your wellness routine, or entertain the family with a splash of fun or a bit of history, June is full of hidden gems that make Park City feel like your own private mountain town.

This Park City Chamber of Commerce guide highlights some of the best ways to take advantage of early summer’s quieter, more relaxed pace. Mountain Vista Excursions offers unforgettable hiking adventures throughout the summer season, perfect for all levels of outdoor enthusiasts. Their 2-Hour Guided Hikes are ideal for those exploring Park City’s extensive trail system with a knowledgeable guide. These privately guided hikes are tailored to each group’s ability level, and guests set the pace. Included in the experience are adjustable trekking poles, water, and snacks. For something more adventurous, the Bright Moon Night Hikes invite guests to experience the mountains under the light of the full moon. With provided headlamps and a star-gazing app, hikers will discover the magic of night hiking and the wonder of the night sky.

Founder Alisha Niswander emphasizes that all tours are privately guided and fully customized: “We’re never going to group you with strangers who might have a completely different pace or goal. It’s a boutique, personalized experience that can be tailored for anyone—from a four-year-old to an 84-year-old.” She adds, “We recently hosted a four-generation family group of twelve, and it was so rewarding to create something fun and positive for every age.”

Longer, unique offerings like the Mountain Hike with Picnic Lunch includes a scenic four-hour trek capped with a locally sourced, mountaintop lunch. Or guests can pair a hike with a rejuvenating soak in a geothermal crater—an ancient limestone formation filled with mineral-rich water. This one-of-a-kind experience combines nature, relaxation, and adventure, making it a summer highlight for visitors of all kinds.

June is the perfect time to visit the Alf Engen Ski Museum at Utah Olympic Park, as a newly remodeled entrance and exhibit space will be unveiled on Saturday, June 21, as part of the Olympic Day activities held on the Park Plaza. The refreshed entry features a striking geometric snow-themed archway, setting the tone for an updated hallway that introduces visitors to new displays. One of the key highlights of this remodel is a special showcase on the evolution of ski fashion, featuring iconic pieces from designer Barbara Alley Simon that capture the bold and colorful styles of the 1960s through the 1990s. Additionally, guests can explore the rich legacy of the U.S. Alpine Ski Team through a display of team jackets donated by Spencer F. Eccles.

Beyond the new exhibits, the Alf Engen Ski Museum offers engaging and family-friendly experiences that celebrate the spirit of mountain sports. One standout feature is the museum’s interactive Mountain Sports Simulator—a virtual adventure that lets visitors experience the thrill of mountain biking, powder skiing, speed flying, and bobsledding. Mention this article for a buy-one-get-one-free simulator experience! Whether you’re a lifelong skier or just looking for a fun and educational stop during your visit to Park City, the museum offers a unique blend of history, innovation, and hands-on excitement. With the remodel debuting in mid-June, now is an ideal time to plan a visit.

The Park City Municipal Athletic & Recreation Center (MARC) is keeping things cool this June with its leisure pool open daily for summer fun, as renovations on the lap pool continue. While the lap pool is under construction and won’t reopen until next year, the leisure pool is fully operational and perfect for families. With a slide, playful water features, and a basketball hoop, it offers something for kids of all ages. For those looking to avoid the crowds, after 3 p.m. tends to be quieter. However, plan to steer clear on Wednesdays during the day when summer day camps make the space particularly busy.

The monthly Dive-In Movie series for kids ages six and up will take place on Thursday, June 20, showing “Moana” beginning around 8 p.m. Spots can be reserved through the MARC’s website. Swim lesson registration is also open for various skill levels. Hours for the Fourth of July will be noon to 5 p.m. Whether you’re splashing around with your family or catching a movie poolside, the MARC’s leisure pool is one of Park City’s hidden summer gems.
