UTAH – Rocky Mountain Power has issued a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) Watch for parts of Central and Southern Utah due to elevated wildfire danger and forecasted strong winds.
The utility says power may be shut off between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, as a precaution to reduce the risk of wildfires sparked by power lines. The shutoff could affect approximately 18,000 customers.
“We appreciate your understanding and patience during this important public safety measure,” the company said in a statement Friday.
Customers are urged to prepare for possible outages by charging devices, stocking up on essentials, and making plans for medical or other needs that rely on electricity. Rocky Mountain Power says it will provide updates as weather conditions develop.
In April, Utah Gov. Spencer J. Cox issued an executive order declaring a state of emergency in 17 counties due to worsening drought conditions. Dry conditions throughout the state have exacerbated wildfire danger in many areas.
