Intermountain Park City Hospital to break ground on major cancer center, ER expansion

PARK CITY, Utah — Intermountain Park City Hospital held a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday on a major expansion project that includes a new cancer center and significant upgrades to the emergency department and surgical services.

The video below shows medical staff joining others at the event.

The project, designed to meet the growing healthcare needs of residents and visitors in the Wasatch Back, features a 10,800-square-foot addition that will house the new Intermountain Health cancer center. The facility will provide medical oncology services, a linear accelerator for radiation therapy, and 18 infusion bays.

Beano Solomon, a 25 year Park City resident, was an instrumental part of the group that got the original hospital built. She funded the feasibility study when they couldn’t raise money to do so, and the rest is history. She spoke at the podium the ground breaking today and continues to support the hospital. Right afterwards she told TownLift, “It takes countless people to make a wonderful facility like the Intermountain Health Park City Hospital run. I’m happy to see so many of those people here today for this exciting groundbreaking and especially the administrators and medical staff who have taken a moment out of their busy day keeping the entire community healthy.”

Hospital officials say the new center will be capable of treating up to 90 percent of cancer cases in the region and serve an estimated 1,500 patients annually. Until now, many patients have had to travel outside the area for comprehensive cancer care.

The expansion comes in response to increasing demand from a rapidly growing local population and millions of tourists who visit Park City each year.
