SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — Expect increased traffic around Kimball Junction this summer as the Utah Department of Transportation repaves I-80 from west of Kimball Junction to east of SR-40. The project is expected to help extend the life of the roadway and provide a smoother ride for drivers, according to UDOT.
The project, which began earlier this week, will continue through October 2025. UDOT advises drivers on the road to expect an increase in noise, dust, vibration, and traffic delays near the project area. Construction will primarily be completed in the nighttime hours, Monday through Saturday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. and Sunday from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. Intermittent ramp and lane closures will be implemented on I-80.
This project comes as UDOT continues work resurfacing I-80 from Lower Parley’s Canyon to exit 134. The project will resurface roads traveling in both directions, including on and off ramps. Ramp closures are expected and will be clearly marked with proper notification well in advance of exit/entry locations, according to UDOT. Paving operations will begin as early as June 19, and motorists can expect short travel delays during peak travel periods. The speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph for crews to safely complete the work.
