Suspect arrested for Transit Center vandalism in Park City

PARK CITY, Utah — A 22-year-old male from Taylorsville was arrested Sunday evening in connection with vandalism at the High Valley Transit Center in Park City, according to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies initially responded to the transit center at 6490 N. Landmark Dr. early Sunday after receiving reports of property damage. Sgt. Talbot of the Summit County Sheriff’s Office said the vandalism occurred around 1:42 a.m. when someone broke the glass front doors and entered the facility after closing hours.

Security cameras captured footage of the suspect, which was distributed to deputies to help identify the individual.

“We were able to get some pretty decent video footage and photos of the individual in the transit center,” Talbot said.

Later that evening, around 7 p.m., deputies located a person matching the suspect’s description near a Chevron station on SR 224. After being detained and admitting involvement in the vandalism, the situation escalated.

“He did reach into his pocket and pull out a pocket knife,” Talbot said. “He never opened the knife, never displayed the blade of the knife … deputies didn’t allow him time to do that.”

Deputies quickly disarmed the suspect before the situation could worsen. While the knife incident raised concerns, the suspect was not charged with assault or threatening behavior.

“Whether his intentions were to threaten with that knife, or to use that knife, we just don’t know,” Talbot explained.

The suspect was arrested for criminal mischief and interference with a peace officer. Authorities have not released the suspect’s name.
