Sundance Resort reveals new high-speed lift, expanded terrain for 26-27 ski season

SUNDANCE, Utah — Sundance Mountain Resort plans to install a new high-speed quad lift and add 165 acres of terrain for the 2026-27 winter season, resort officials announced Tuesday.

The Electric Horseman Express, manufactured by Doppelmayr, will transport skiers from near the base of the Wildwood Lift across the Far East Ridge to the top of Red’s Lift at Bearclaw Summit. The lift will provide access to all new and existing terrain on the resort’s “back mountain.”

The expansion will open a new bowl next to Bishop’s Bowl and several new trails, including a groomed run along the Far East Ridge featuring panoramic views of Utah Valley, Heber Valley and three mountain lakes.

“This project represents Sundance Mountain Resort’s most significant mountain expansion since 1985 and will further elevate the ski/rider experience on our mountain while offering new view corridors and perspectives never seen before – one of the reasons I am personally excited for the new Far East ridge run,” said Chad Linebaugh, the resort’s president and general manager.

The additions will create 165 acres of new terrain with 1,850 feet of continuous vertical drop, according to the resort.

These developments are part of “Act II” of the resort’s revitalization plan. Since 2021, Sundance has added a total of 205 acres of new terrain and made several improvements, including the Outlaw Express Lift in 2021, the Wildwood Lift in 2022, and a snowmaking system upgrade.

“The addition of the Electric Horseman Express will transform how our guests experience the back mountain, allowing skiers and riders to lap all of the new and existing terrain in a single high-speed lift ride,” said Czar Johnson, chief operating officer.

The terrain expansion continues the vision established by resort founder Robert Redford and maintained by the current ownership group, balancing development with preservation.

Resort visitors can preview the new Far East terrain during the 2025-26 winter season before full operations begin the following winter. The resort’s new ski-in/ski-out accommodations, the Inn at Sundance Mountain Resort, is scheduled to open in early 2026.
