PARK CITY, Utah – Park City’s annual spring water main flushing program is underway, with crews working through May 23 to maintain water quality and ensure fire hydrants are operational.
City water teams are flushing hydrants and valves between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. in Old Town, Aerie, and other dead-end streets. The project is part of routine maintenance aimed at removing buildup and sediment from water pipes, improving drinking water quality and keeping the city’s water system running smoothly year-round.
Residents may notice water running along gutters and into storm drains during the flushing process. City officials say this is intentional and not a waste, as large volumes of water are needed to effectively clear the system. Crews have scheduled the work during low-demand hours to minimize disruption.
“People might see water flowing in the streets, but it’s all part of the maintenance process to make sure everything is in working order,” said Park City Government in a Facebook post. “It also helps ensure hydrants are ready to perform in case of an emergency.”
Those in affected neighborhoods may experience temporary low water pressure or discoloration. If that occurs, the city advises running cold water from the lowest point in the home or an outdoor tap for 5 to 15 minutes to clear it up.
Residents with concerns about water quality can contact Park City Public Utilities at 435-615-5305.
Park City Municipal added that crews follow best practices to avoid traffic disruptions and protect local waterways during flushing. The city appreciates residents’ patience as they complete the necessary maintenance to keep Park City’s water clean, safe, and reliable.
