Hideout council appoints interim mayor following resignation

HIDEOUT, Utah — The Hideout Town Council has appointed council member Ralph Severini as interim mayor following the resignation of former Mayor Phil Rubin, who stepped down after seven years of service. Rubin’s resignation, citing health reasons, took effect on Monday, April 14, 2025.

Severini has served on the Hideout Town Council for five years. He currently works as an advisor for Amazon Web Services and holds experience in technology and business sectors.

During his tenure as interim mayor through the end of 2025, Severini plans to focus on several key initiatives. These include improving government transparency, working toward Hideout’s designation as a Firewise community site by the National Fire Protection Association, and strengthening relationships with surrounding communities and stakeholders.

He will also continue development work on the Richardson Flat and Ross Creek projects with support from the town’s Economic Development Committee and Planning Commission. These initiatives aim to stimulate economic growth and increase community interaction in Hideout.

The Town Council will vote on Severini’s interim replacement during their meeting on Thursday, June 12 at 6:00 p.m. Candidates will be interviewed by the council during this public meeting.

Those interested in filling the vacant council seat must be primary residents of Hideout for at least 12 consecutive months. Applications should be submitted to Hideout Recorder Alicia Fairbourne by Monday, June 9 at 5:00 p.m.

All candidates must complete conflict of interest and campaign financial disclosure forms before the application deadline.
