HBO’s ‘Mountainhead,’ Filmed in Park City, Highlights billionaire bromance

PARK CITY, Utah— Production is set to wrap this week in Park City on Mountainhead, the new HBO Original film from Succession creator Jesse Armstrong, who makes his feature directorial debut with the sharp-edged satire premiering May 31 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and streaming on Max.

Cory Michael Smith, Steve Carell, Ramy Youssef, and Jason Schwartzman.

Set against an escalating international crisis, Mountainhead follows four billionaire friends as they retreat to higher ground—literally and metaphorically—while the world below teeters. Steve Carell stars as Randall, joined by Jason Schwartzman, Cory Michael Smith, and Ramy Youssef in a cast that blends comedy with unease.

“Park City delivered the perfect mix of isolation and grandeur for this story,” Armstrong said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The alpine setting serves as both scenic backdrop and metaphorical pressure cooker in a film exploring ego, privilege, and fragile alliances.

Produced by HBO mainstays Frank Rich, Lucy Prebble, and Mark Mylod, the film marks a reunion of the Succession creative team, now shifting their lens from Manhattan moguls to mountaintop survivalists.

Armstrong, a seven-time Emmy winner, told IndieWire the film is “not dystopian—but it’s definitely a little too close for comfort.”

Mountainhead debuts May 31 on HBO and will be available for streaming on Max.
