PARK CITY, Utah — The Park City Community Foundation has awarded the first grant from its Community Belonging Fund to the Wasatch Immigration Project (WIP), allocating $50,000 to expand critical immigration legal services in the Wasatch Back.
“This grant from Park City Community Foundation is a game-changer,” said Maggie AbuHaidar, Executive Director of WIP. “It allows us to bring on more legal staff at a time when immigration policies are shifting rapidly, and families are in urgent need of representation.”
The foundation’s grants committee unanimously approved the funding, which will enable WIP to hire additional staff attorneys and address a growing demand for pro bono and low-cost legal services. Since its founding in 2023, the nonprofit law firm has worked to assist community members navigating the complex immigration system, many of whom cannot afford private representation. WIP currently has a waitlist of more than 100 individuals seeking legal consultations.
“We are thrilled to support Wasatch Immigration Project in its mission to provide high-quality legal representation to our immigrant neighbors,” said Diego Zegarra, VP of Equity & Impact at Park City Community Foundation. “Ensuring access to justice is a key component of fostering a truly inclusive and welcoming community.”
The Community Belonging Fund was launched in January to support programs that strengthen Summit County’s social fabric by uplifting immigrant communities and expanding access to essential resources. The fund prioritizes initiatives in areas such as legal assistance, immigrant rights education, housing stability, and access to mental and physical health services.
