Man dies at Canyons Village after fall in Super Condor terrain

PARK CITY, Utah — A man died today at Park City Mountain Canyons Village, according to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office. Park City Mountain officials confirmed the victim was a 55-year-old male snowboarder from Hawaii.

The incident occurred below the south-facing chutes of Super Condor near “Alley” run. Officials report that an initial call was made just before 11 a.m. of an injured snowboarder.

The snowboarder was later found buried in snow and a family member assisted ski patrollers in locating and digging him out. While the exact circumstances surrounding how the individual became buried remain unclear, there are no indications that the incident was avalanche related.

Ski patrol personnel evacuated the victim from the mountain and to Canyons Village Base Clinic where after further emergency care and evaluation, the individual was pronounced deceased by flight paramedics.

“On behalf of our entire Park City Mountain team, we extend our sincerest sympathies to the family and friends of our guest,” said Deirdra Walsh VP and COO of Park City Mountain.

This incident marks the second fatal accident at Park City Mountain Canyons Village this month, following the death of a 35-year-old man from Arizona on March 1.

The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of family.

This is a developing story. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
